Took Clover out side again this morning. She peed and pooped first thing. I am thinking that she may be housebroken. She is so scared when we first go outside but loves it. She settles in the grass and watches everything.
Ill try to get a photo of her outside later today. Handling her and the camera could be hard.
She did give me a bloody nose while we were out there. She came running at me- then stuck her butt in the air and pounced me. I cant contain my excitement that she was trying to play. Tail wagging- she even tried to do some rough play with Oliver- which was quite hard for on the leash!
YAY Clover. it makes me so happy to see you enjoying yourself.
This is the story of Clover- a rescue dog from Brevard, NC- and her journey in a search for her forever home...

Progress being made...
Today was the first day we took Clover outside. We do not have a fenced yard and our dog, Oliver, stays close because he was raised in our yard without a fence. I was REALLY nervous about taking Clover outside- she was in harness with leash hooked through the harness and leash.
Her little heart racing as I carried her outside. We sat in the grass and she looked around, sniffing the air. Then she darted off my lap- I thought she was trying to get away- when really she had to poop! YAY first bowel movement outside. She then sat in the grass watching me throw the ball for Oliver.
Clover still doesnt like to come out of her crate- her safe zone. So I pull her out and shut the door. Sometimes she will venture over to the backdoor and lay in the sun. When our dog and cat come to say hello she kisses them :)
Each night we have cuddle time with Oliver and Clover. She often falls asleep in my lap. But tonight her and Oliver took over the couch while Chris read in the office and I did my taxes in the floor.

A new beginning...
After bringing Clover home in her crate- we allowed her to sit for a bit, unbothered. Later that day I opened the crate letting her sniff me. She refused to look at us- turning her head and eyes away. As we pet her she shakes with fear.
For the first 48 hours she did not use the bathroom once! I was beginning to get worried- talking with other volunteers of CAAR for ideas. We finally tried pumpkin puree on her dinner and it worked like a charm. Who ever knew we would be so excited over a bowel movement?!?
For the next week Clover got a bath every morning. Because she would hold her bladder in all day and wet/mess her crate a night. Funny enough. Clover seemed very relaxed at bath times. Each day I spent several 15-20 minute sessions sitting with her in my lap. Of course I had to drag her out of the crate each time but once Clover felt relaxed in my lap she would sigh so loudly! She also began to take food out of my hand.
Cutest thing ever- She has a 5th toe on one of her back paws. :)

From the Start...
Clover came to the Transylvania County Animal Shelter on March 1st, 2011- after being abandoned by her previous owners when they moved. She sat at the shelter for weeks, pressed against the wall, scared to death.

I visited the shelter on many occasions because I do photos for the rescue group Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue (CAAR). And from the moment I saw Clover my heart reached for her. She wouldnt let me get close enough to get a good photo. Most of the dogs at the shelter coming running to you when you open their cages- Clover on the other hand tried to run away. I kept hoping that someone would pull her for adoption or foster. But by her 4th week there no one had- so of course I agreed to foster for CAAR until another foster home opened up.
The morning that I was to go pick Clover up from the shelter she escaped when Animal Services Staff was cleaning her cage :( poor girl. She hung around the outside fence of the shelter but never coming within arms reach. After the shelter closed that night I went back with canned food hoping to catch her. After an hour of sitting and baby talk I was able to get Clover to eat food placed 3-feet from me but no luck in catching her as darkness fell in. The next morning I received a call that animal services had caught her- I immediately went to pick her up.
And so Clover's recovery and journey begin.
